Hi Beautiful person,
This is officially my last post for the year. It has been an amazing experience growing with you all. At the end of the year 2015, I had a few plans for 2016. Blogging was certainly not a part of my plan. I’ll be sharing what led me into the blogging world soon; here I am 4 months into it and on my 20th post.
Today’s post is a bit of a call to reality and also a bit of reflection as we close 2016.
So let’s get into it…
The other day, I was in the car with my family. We were on our way to pick up a family friend. I was the only member of the family that had been to this house a few times, so you’d think I should know the way… right? I’m not great with road directions. It’s so bad! for a young person, maybe it’ll be one of my goals for 2017….. to pay attention to the road.
I told my mum to head in a particular direction; after a while I knew it was the wrong route. The road was narrow and bumpy. There were lots of bushes around and it was also late at night.
Simply put, it wasn’t the safest route at that hour of the night. Plus the light on our car wasn’t working, so the whole scenario was just not funny!
My mum asked me ‘ Itunu, are you sure this is the right direction’
At first I said ‘ yes mum‘. Then as we got deeper and the road got more narrow……it seemed lonely, long and unsafe. I had to admit it, I no longer knew where we were ‘mum I’m not sure anymore‘. They all looked at me, we had been on the same road for about 20 minutes and my ego had kept me from being honest. She replied very calm and said ‘I’ll turn back, there’s no point in us contininuing on a wrong journey‘. It seemed like a simple statement but I learnt something great from this. It seemed as if she just said what I needed to hear.
Here goes the whole point of my brief story :
- The first thing I want to point out is the fact that no no matter how much we kept on the journey. It wouldn’t have made the journey any shorter or right….. I just want you to take a deep look into any journey you’re in. Do you have feeling I did . This could be a relationship, it could be a job… You know it’s not the best situation to be in, you know it’s the wrong path. PLEASE turn back, you’ll only waste petrol like my mum did, only this time it would be your precious time, resources and energy.
- The second thing I want to point out is being honest. Being honest and asking for help is ok. It is not a sign of weakness, It is important to SPEAK UP. Up until recently, I struggled with this in the sense that I spoke too much about my personal issues. There’s a disadvantage to letting everyone and anyone into your life. But let’s note that there’ s a greater disadvantage to keeping things to yourself. Be honest and ask for help, you don’t have to be a loner. We all need people as life can be a lonely journey.
This post was very heavy on my heart and I needed to share it. I am sorry if it felt long but I do hope I spoke to someone as I did to myself. Whether you believe in new year resolutions or not.
Do whatever works for you, as long as we all make sure in 2017 we are an improved version of who we were in 2016. That’s all that matters; I am excited and personally I will not restrict myself to resolutions. I also believe in the power of prayer!
I am happy I was able to let this go off my chest by sharing it with you. Thank you so much for giving me the avenue to. The next time I’ll see you will be in the new year, so have a fab one!
Happy new year in advance xxx
See you soon
